Welcome to PicRemote

PicRemote is an application that lets you remotely control a slideshow of your Flickr pictures. We created it so that we could more easily narrate stories about our own pictures while video chatting with our families.

show more details & pictures...

Because the whole point was to make it easy for our families, viewers do nothing but visit a specific URL, and enter a password (chosen by the presenter). Presenters have a little more work (you need a google account, you need to install a greasemonkey script & you have to set a password for the slideshow).

As the slideshow controller, you run a greasemonkey script, that takes note of whatever picture you're currently viewing on flickr:

Slideshow viewers go to your personalized url, and sit back and watch, while, thanks to the magic of ajax, the page is updated every time you navigate to a new picture on flickr:

Works pretty great in combination with narration via phone/skype/google chat.

Trying to view a slideshow?

There's nothing to see here. You need to ask the presenter for the URL and password specific to their slideshow.

Trying to present a slideshow?

  1. Pictures - You need to have the pictures that you want to share hosted on flickr. We might one day support other stuff like Picasa, but not yet...
  2. Browser - You need a browser like Firefox that can run userscripts
  3. Addon - You need an addon for running user scripts: Scriptish or Greasemonkey
  4. Userscript - You need to install the PicRemote user script
  5. User Account - For now, we only support google accounts. We might change this in the future. Who knows. Only the presenter needs an account.
  6. Configure - You can set up your slideshow by visiting this page. Alternately, whenever you visit a Flickr photo page with our greasemonkey script installed, you will see a link to edit these settings.
